Service Included, by Phoebe Damrosch

I wasn't all that interested in reading this book when I first heard about it. I figured it would be all about how customers in restaurants can be bitchy and/or wacky. But when Ruhlman wrote about it, I figured if it's good enough for Ruhlman, it's good enough for me. Especially when I read that the four-star restaurant she writes about working in is Thomas Keller's New York restaurant, per se. I'm a little obsessed with the idea of going to a Thomas Keller restaurant.

She doesn't just write about her job, she also writes about her personal life, falling in love with a co-worker. Ruhlman thought the love story took away from the book, but I liked it. It bothered me that the guy was seeing other women even after he told her he loved her, but since they're still together in real life, I guess she got past it.

There are a few eccentric customer stories here, but I enjoyed them. This was an entertaining, quick read.

I checked this out of my library after you reviewed it and I loved it. I've worked in restaurants but nothing so fancy and I really enjoyed finding out all the preparation in setting up the place. I think my favorite section was when she talked about the food reviewer.

I'm glad you liked it! I just saw a picture of her and her new baby on Amateur Gourmet or Ruhlman or something.
