A Good Man, by Guy Vanderhaeghe
I have read both of the other books mentioned on this one's cover, which I found from this review make up a Wild West-themed historical trilogy. Interesting! They deserve a re-read, since I remember that I liked them, but that's about it.
I liked this book too. Taking place primarily in a Montana pioneer town near the border of Canada, it sprawls back to the east and back in time a bit for some back-story, and also across a good many characters. The characters were vividly drawn, and I was absorbed into the story. I had a mild quibble with the Sitting Bull side plot, but never mind that. Get to know Wesley Case and Ada.
