This book was so intense, it was a two-dayer. I simply couldn't put it down. I think I read a review of it in Bust a while ago and was inspired to request it from the library. What a good call.
It's about a dystopian future England where women are forced to wear contraceptive devices and everyone survives off imported canned food while most of the army fights wars in China and South America. One woman breaks away and joins an all-female commune on a farm in the mountains. While idyllic compared to the miserable life in town, their "Unofficial" status makes it dangerous and they train a fierce army.
It reminded me (and everyone else, apparently) of Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale. Dystopian novels are my favourite, in a dark way.

I also enjoy a good dystopian tale. I'll have to add this to my holds list at the library.
I wish I read as fast as you. I'm still reading "Oil!" which I started in mid-July. It's frickin' epic.
